Frustratingly, that awful headache I was suffering from recently returned… It decided to swap sides and hit me on the right side of my head when it resurfaced.
I woke with excruciating pain. It was unlike any of my normal headaches, so I knew that my normal go-to headache remedies wouldn’t help.
I did a quick repertorisation on the symptoms of this headache. The homeopathic remedy that came up was Agaricus. Agaricus was the only remedy that covered the 3 physical pain symptoms I had focussed on in my repertorisation.
Agaricus is a homeopathic remedy I have never taken before. As is my normal practice before prescribing, I continued my research and read more about it in the Materia Medica… I checked that the physicals of Agaricus headaches matched what I was experiencing, and then I turned to the mental symptoms, which hadn’t been included in my repertorisation, to see if these matched how I have been feeling lately.
I read that the mental state of this remedy moves through 4 phases – from cheerfulness, to even greater happiness, to anger, then to sadness and exhaustion. I was completely surprised as I recognised these phases in my own life. For me they track the course of my last relationship – happiness, more happiness, then drama, anger, sadness, a heartbreaking breakup, more sadness and grief. These emotions have evolved over the course of years, and I hadn’t even considered that they would be part of a remedy picture! I just thought they were life. Homeopathy continues to amaze and astound me. There truly is a remedy for everything.
I recognised that I was firmly in the final phase, the exhaustion phase. I decided to take a dose. I took a moderate potency of this homeopathic remedy – not too high and not too low. The relief I felt was profound. The headache reduced to a manageable level of pain within half an hour. I took another dose at lunchtime, and the headache was gone completely. I felt relaxed and at ease throughout the entire day. I felt a sense of peace and calm and carefree happiness that I haven’t known in months. I also felt an energy boost I have been needing for a long time.
This response is what we are looking for in homeopathy. We are looking for the remedy to ease the physical pain and suffering that caused us to seek help in the first place. We also measure the accuracy of the prescription by the number of other spheres that the remedy improves. In particular we like to see an improvement in the emotional state of the person, and an increase in the energy levels the person experiences. The other litmus test we apply, is whether or not the remedy improves the person’s quality of sleep.
When I went to bed that night, I went straight to sleep (I am normally someone who takes a while to fall asleep). I slept longer than normal, did not struggle to get back to sleep when I woke during the night, and in the morning I woke with enough energy to practice some yoga before beginning my day. Perfect!
I am so grateful for homeopathy, and for remedies like these that ease suffering on every level – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
The remedy held for almost a week. It returned after a particularly intense deadline I was working hard to meet. I had had days of long hours, and late nights staring at a computer screen, and I wasn’t surprised at all that this headache had reappeared. We all know when we are pushing our limits too hard, that it is only a matter of time before our body reacts. I took the remedy once in the morning and, just like when I took it last week, I felt an improvement within half an hour. I took a dose once more a few hours later to clear the last of the pain, and the headache again completely disappeared.
With homeopathy, we return to balance, and can continue on our life path with grace and ease.
