Are you a gourmet or a gourmand?

Do you love to eat?
Do you love to eat only sumptuous, rich foods?
Or do you love to eat every taste sensation, and lots of it?

A gourmet is someone who is a connoisseur of fine foods and wines.
A gourmand is someone who loves eating well, often indiscriminately and to excess.

Often, both gourmets and gourmands will suffer from indigestion due to their love of food.
The symptoms of their indigestion may be different though…

Today, let’s consider two possible indigestion scenarios:

  1. You may love to eat good food, but you find you cannot eat a lot of it as your digestion becomes upset easily. You may wake the next morning feeling angry and irritable, thirstless except perhaps for sips of coffee, with a tummy that can’t be touched as even the slightest pressure is intolerable, or
  2. You may be a ravenous eater, enjoying every morsel and delighting your host with your love and enthusiasm for every dish placed in front of you. You do not realise when you are full, and eat well beyond your stomach’s capacity. You may be full to bursting, but feel better by applying firm pressure on your tummy. Even though you are full, and have little room left in your stomach, you are still thirsty. You may be angry, and lose your temper in the evening.

If you recognise yourself in these descriptions, know that there is a homeopathic remedy that may help ease your symptoms of indigestion!

  1. If you are a gourmet, with a sensitive digestive system, who loves rich foods and fine wines, who tends to be thirstless, who cannot stand touch when their tummy is sore, and is likely to be angry and irritable in the morning when not feeling well, the homeopathic remedy that may assist you is Nux vom.
  2. If you are a gourmand, who loves to eat and often eats more than you need, who is generally thirsty, who feels better for applying pressure to their sore tummy, and who expresses anger more often in the evenings rather than the mornings, the homeopathic remedy that may be indicated for you is Bryonia.

Do you suffer from indigestion, but you don’t relate to either of these descriptions? Please know these are only two possible remedies for indigestion – there are many more symptoms that may be experienced, and many more homeopathic remedies that may be indicated. Talk with your homeopath about your indigestion and find a remedy that brings you relief!
