Do you procrastinate?

Are you studying? Writing assignments, reports or essays?

As the academic year begins again, many of us find it hard to return to the rhythm of concentrating and focusing…

There are flower essences that can help you with this!

  • The Bach Flower Remedy Hornbeam is specific for procrastination.
It works wonders for those times that you feel tired just thinking about all the work you need to do! Hornbeam helps you stop finding excuses and helps you do what you need to do when you need to do it.
  • As a complement to Hornbeam – you could also consider taking an Australian Bush Flower Essence combination essence called Cognis. This blend helps improve focus and increases mental clarity, and is wonderful to take while studying to help maximise every minute of your Valuable Study Time. Usually with Australian Bush Flower Essences, they are taken twice a day. However, while I was studying, I used to take it every half hour whenever I was at my computer. It helped me stay present and concentrate, rather than be distracted and think about other things.

Something else I found invaluable when I was studying was the Pomodoro technique. Have you heard of it? It is very helpful for staying focused and on task…
Basically, you use a timer, and set it for 25 minutes. Then you work for the 25 minutes, and when the timer goes off, you take a 5 minute break. Then you reset the timer, and start again.
What is important is to divide your overall task into small tasks which are achievable in 25 minutes. For example, if you have an essay to write, you might spend the first 25 minute session planning the essay. The next 25 minute session researching your first paragraph. The next 25 minute writing the first paragraph. The next 25 minute session editing the first paragraph. And so on.
You decide what you want to achieve in each 25 minutes, and then do it, and then rest – completely for 5 minutes. During the 5 minute break, walk away from your computer. Do something completely different, like going outside for a little walk to the mailbox, or meditate, or make a cup of tea.
If anything pops into your mind to distract you during your 25 minute working time, just make a note of it and if it is urgent do it during your next 5 minute break!
